Preparando la Navidad - Preparing Christmas

    En nuestras clases de Infantil ya estamos preparandonos para recibir la Navidad con alegría e ilusión. Por eso estamos haciendo actividades como la que se ve en la foto, un gran mural con las palabras "Merry Christmas" y decorado por nuestros alumnos con sus nombres y sus dibujos.

    También estamos usando algunos cortos de animación para que se familiaricen con elementos propios de la cultura inglesa relacionados con la Navidad, como por ejemplo, el que os dejamos más adelante.

    We are getting our classes ready for Christmas at school, and we are doing it with lots of joy and ilusion. So we do some exercises like the one shown in the photo below, in which our pupils decorate a great Merry Christmas banner with their names and coloured drawings.

   We are also watching some cartoons related to Chritsmas and their own English culture elements to be known by our children, like the one below.

    Last Monday, we were visited by a group of teachers and pupils from schools that take part in Project Comenius. They all were with us until Friday, and they really enjoyed with lots of games, activities, trips, tours, etc...

TRICK OR TREAT!

¿DE DÓNDE PROVIENE HALLOWEEN? - WHERE DOES HALLOWEEN COME FROM?

La palabra "Halloween" tiene sus orígenes en la Iglesia Católica. Proviene de la contracción de "All Hallows Eve" (actualmente "All Hollows Day" - Día de todos los Santos). Este día es el que la Iglesia dedica en honor a todos los Santos cada 1 de noviembre.

Truco o trato

La costumbre "de truco o trato" tiene distintos orígenes. Antiguamente, en la época de los druidas se creía que los muertos podían hacer conjuros sobre la humanidad causando pánico y destrucción por lo que la gente del campo, para apaciguarlos, entregaba comida a los Druidas cuando visitaban sus casas.

También se habla de una costumbre europea del siglo XIX llamada "souling". Se dice que los cristianos iban de pueblo en pueblo pidiendo "soul cakes" (tartas de alma), hechas de trozos de pan y pasas. Cuantas más tartas recibían los mendigos, el mayor número de oraciones que se comprometían a rezar por el alma de los familiares muertos de quien les diera la tarta.

Jack-o-lanterns:

Los niños irlandeses solían esculpir patatas o nabos y luego los encendían para más tarde hacer la recogida de dulces en Halloween. Así conmemoraban a Jack, un deshonesto villano irlandés tan malo que ni Dios ni el Diablo lo querían. Rechazado por los dos, vagaba por el mundo buscando un lugar para descansar llevando únicamente el calor de una vela hecha en un nabo...

The word "Halloween" actually has its origins in the Catholic Church. It comes from the contracted form of All Hallows Eve. November, 1, "All Hollows Day" is a Catholic day of observance in honor of saints.

Trick or treat:

The custom of trick and treating probably has sevelar origins. The Druids believed that the dead would play tricks on mankind and cause panic and destruction. They had to be appeased, so country folk would give the Druids food as they visited their homes. 

Also, it is thought that it has its origins in a ninth-century European custom called souling. Christians would walk from willage to village begging for "soul cakes" made out of square pieces of bread with currants. The more soul cakes the beggars would receive, the more prayers they would promise to say on behalf of the dead relatives of the donors.

Jack-o-lanterns:

Irish children used to carve out potatoes or turnips and light them for the Halloween gatherings. They commemorated Jack, a shifty Irish villain so wicked that neither God nor the Devil wanted him. Rejected by both, he wandered the world endlessly looking for a place to rest, his only warmth a glittering candle in a turnip...

Halloween - Puzzles and masks

     Os dejamos en esta ocasión un dibujo que se va a convertir en puzzle para los alumnos de 5 años, y unas máscaras para hacerlas en las clases de 4 años.

    We bring you a picture to be converted on a puzzle for 5 years old children, and some masks to be coloured by 4 years old children.

Halloween en Infantil - Canción de la calabaza

     Se va acercando la fecha en la que celebramos Halloween, esa fiesta que le gusta tanto a los pequeños. Para dicha fiesta estamos preparando una serie de actividades que acerquen a nuestros alumnos a la misma, permitiéndoles conocer los aspectos más significativos.

     Está claro que una de las cosas más significativas de Halloween es la calabaza. A través de esta sencilla canción los alumnos de 5 años conocen a Jack'o Lantern, y además, le dan un repasito a las partes de la cara, nombrando las partes más importantes.

     Os dejamos con el video por si lo queréis ver en casa. Esperemos que os guste.

     Halloween's date is approaching, a lovely party for small children. We are preparing a series of activities for this party that bring our students to it, allowing them to know the most significant aspects.

      Clearly, one of the most significant things about Halloween is the pumpkin. Through this simple song five years students know Jack'o Lantern, and also remember the parts of the face, naming the most important parts of it.
